Dorchester United  1 - 2  Poole Town  -  Dorset Senior Cup Quarter Final

The Dolphins reached the last four of the Dorset Senior Cup with a deserved victory over Dorchester United.

The initial drama came before the match even started when keeper Paul Spillane was unable to get to the match in time for the kick-off. With manager Paul Morrell in constant touch by telephone with Spillane, Poole Town started with just 10 men and Darren Reeks took temporary charge in goal. Poole kept the game tight in the opening minutes protecting Reeks and Spillane eventually made it onto the pitch after ten minutes.

United made the better chances in the opening part of the game going close on three separate occasions. In particular they had a free header on the quarter hour which was aimed straight at Spillane. On 22 minutes the excellent Matty White flicked on and Lee Manning fizzed a shot from wide right across the goalmouth. A minute later and another Lee Manning shot was turned round the post. Poole took the lead on 35 minutes. Andy Gater delivered a great ball into the box and after the ball was knocked back by Manning, White ran in to head superbly past the keeper into the far corner. Half-time: 0-1.

Poole got the perfect start to the second half when Leigh Cornick was pulled down in the box after being put through superbly by Lee Manning. Lee Manning despatched the penalty to give the Dolphins a two goal lead. With the pitch cutting up the conditions made good football very hard and the rest of the game centered around a midfield battle. United did pull a goal back on 59 minutes when their best player Jamie Yates hit a superb shot from outside the box which beat Spillane low to his left hand side. Poole always looked comfortable however and they kept possession well in the dying minutes to ensure safe passage to the semi-finals.
