Ringwood Town  2 - 2  Poole Town  -  Floodlit Cup 2nd Round 2nd Leg
(Ringwood Town won 3-1 on penalties)

After the 2-2 draw in the first leg at Tatnam it was always likely to be a close affair in the second leg. With both keepers (Potter and Spillane) out injured James Domm was drafted in for the day. Little did he know that he would later make two fine penalty saves and still end up on the losing side!

Poole took the lead on 11 minutes when a Woodward freekick from the right hand side was curled in and a defender got a touch to conced an own goal. (Other reports suggest Ryan Woolfenden got a touch but at the time he admitted that it was not his goal......?) With Poole back in front on aggregate Ringwood showed some more urgency and gradually they got back into the game. On 15 minutes a Ringwood freekick was met by Jason Lovell at the far post but his header hit the woodwork and was cleared.

On 18 minutes Poole produced a good move. Darren Mooney hit a sweet pass with the outside of his right foot and Paul Manning's shot floated just over the bar from wide on the right. A blow on 41 minutes for Poole when Ben Wright left the field injured and was replaced by James Wood. With a minute left before the break a goalmouth scramble in the Poole box saw the ball thumped home to level the tie up at 3-3 on aggregate. Half-time: 1-1.

Whilst Poole did create some chances in the second half it was Ringwood who seemed to look the more dangerous. On 53 minutes Woolfenden showed some good skill and his through ball was met by Cornick but his resulting shot was wide of the post. A cross from Paul Manning on 74 minutes found the head of Lee Manning but the Ringwood keeper made a comfortable save. Shortly after Ringwood took the lead on the day and the overall tie for the first time and it looked all over for the Dolphins. Town showed good spirit however and with just a minute remaining a Paul Manning cross was met by substitute Mark Jackson and he slid in to send the tie to penalties.

Fawley  0 - 4  Poole Town  -  Hampshire Premier League

Another decent performance against Fawley saw Poole pick up another three points and move back to sixth in the Hampshire Premier League. New signing Mark Jackson from Christchurch made his first appearance for the club as left wing back.

On a greasy surface Poole played their best football during the first half. Matty White created the first decent chance on 7 minutes when his lob over the keeper dropped just wide of the right hand post. On 12 minutes Cornick produced some superb work down the right pressurising a defender into an error. After stealing the ball Cornick cut in and delivered a short pass into the path of Woolfenden who found the back of the net with a solid shot. Two minutes later and things got even better for Poole. Jackson slid a great ball inside the defender and after Lee Manning's shot had been parried, Woolfenden stole in to hammer home his second of the match. The new striker looked particularly impressive in the first half as he and Cornick teamed up well for the Dolphins. On 39 minutes he again beat his marker and ran on only to shot just wide of the left hand post. With practically the last kick of the first half Poole secured the points with their third of the night. Andy Gater's curling freekick from the left was knocked onto the bar but Billy Robinson fired home the rebound for his second in as many games. Half-time: 0-3.

The second half saw Fawley play with a lot more confidence and a good right footed effort on 47 minutes whistled just over the angle of post and bar. From the goal kick Woolfenden picked up the ball, turned, beat his man and chipped the bar just over the bar when his hat-trick looked odds-on. Matty White had a header from a corner tipped just over the bar and on 80 minutes Cornick got his deserved goal. A big kick from keeper Potter bounced just once before Cornick unleashed a terrific volley which looped over the keeper into the left hand corner of the goal.

With minutes remaining Potter suffered a badly gashed leg and was taken to hospital for stitches. Cornick took over between the sticks but the game ended shortly after with a good win for the Town.

Poole: Potter (D. Morrell), Gater (?), Wright, Mooney, Robinson, Woodward, Jackson, L. Manning (Muir), White, Woolfenden, Cornick

Poole Town  3 - 1  Stockbridge  -  Hampshire Premier League

The Dolphins got back to winning ways with their first home league win since 30th August. Paul Manning started in place of the injured James Wood and new signing Mark Jackson from Christchurch took his place on the bench.

On 6 minutes Ryan Woolfenden began another impressive performance by picking out Lee Manning from 30 yards. Manning brought the ball down but volleyed his shot well wide of the right hand post. The first half was fairly uninspiring with neither side looking particularly dangerous. Leigh Cornick had a couple of long range efforts but both flew well over the bar without threatening the goal. Stockbridge's best effort of the first half came on 35 minutes when a great cross from the right was met by a header which saw the bar fly just over the Poole bar. Half-time: 0-0.

Poole definitely stepped up a gear in the second half and made more chances than the previous 45 minutes. On 47 minutes a Woodward cross from the left dropped to Lee Manning but his turn and shot fell easily for the keeper to gather. On 50 minutes Stockbridge got through the Poole defence but Potter pulled off a fine point blank save to keep the scores level. Five minutes later and Poole were in front. Woolfenden delivered a good ball from the left to Paul Manning. Manning spotted the keeper way off of his line (which he insisted on doing the entire match!) and volleyed the ball superbly over the keeper into the net from fully 30 yards.

The lead only lasted five minutes. A good move from Stockbridge ended with a great ball in from the left and a Stockbridge player ghosted in at the far post to head home from close range. On this occasion Poole were not going to be denied and they continued to push for the second goal. On 63 minutes Lee Manning hit another volley just over the ball and on 70 minutes they were back in front. Another Woodward cross from the left was not dealt with and when the ball came out to Paul Manning on the edge of the box he hit another sweet shot which found the inside of the left hand post and the back of the net.

With five minutes left Stockbridge caused some panic in the Poole defence as they went close to scoring on a couple of occasions. However it was Poole who had the final word when they got a freekick practically on the centre spot. As the Stockbridge players argued over the awarding of the freekick Billy Robinson spotted the keeper again way off of his line. He ran up and hit the ball superbly from the halfway line and with the keeper scrabbling to get back the ball dropped under the bar for a wonderfully executed goal.

Poole: Potter, Gater, Wright, Mooney, Robinson, Woodward, P. Manning, L. Manning, White, Wolfenden, Cornick

Portsmouth RN  3 - 1  Poole Town  -  Hampshire Premier League

Poole slipped to a fourth defeat in five league games as they took on a strong Royal Navy side at Burnaby Road. No Darren Reeks, Lee Manning, Alex Purkiss or Ricky Muir saw Billy Robinson start his first game and Maloney and James Wood started the game. New signing Ryan Woolfenden from AFC Bournemouth made his debut up front alongside Leigh Cornick.

Portsmouth RN have scored a lot of goals of late and it is not hard to see why. They have a decent squad who work hard and Poole were caught napping as early as the 3rd minute. Robinson was caught out at right back and a cross from the left was met by a Navy striker but his shot hit the post when a goal looked odds-on.

James Wood left the field injured after just 18 minutes and Paul Manning moved to right midfield with Gater dropping into the back three. On 20 minutes Poole took a quick freekick and Woodward found himself free down the left hand side. His cross was nodded down by Paul Manning but Matty White's shot flashed over the bar. Two minutes later and Royal Navy should have taken the lead. The Poole defence was carved open again and the shot cannoned back off the inside of the post, rolled across the goalline before being cleared away. Another let-off. Woolfenden showed some good skill a minute later and delivered a great ball from the left into the path of Manning but his shot was dragged wide of the left hand post.

Poole took the lead on 30 minutes. Woolfenden again hit a superb 35 yard pass, this time from the right inside the defender. Carl Woodward sprinted past the defender, controlled the ball superbly and struck a sweet shot past the keeper which went in off the far post. It was the goal of the night but unfortunately was not going to be enough for the Dolphins. Poor defending on 41 minutes allowed a deflected shot to be knocked in on the rebound when everyone expected the flag to go up for offside. It never came and Navy were level. Poole were perhaps a little lucky to go in level at the break. Navy had created the better chances and had controlled much of the half. Half-time: 1-1.

Peter Kydd came on for Maloney at half time but left the field injured after 20 minutes of the second half to be replaced by Matt Homer. A defensive error on 50 minutes sent a Navy player clean through but his shot was pulled badly wide of the right hand post. At the other end Cornick fired in a left footed shot on 55 minutes but the keeper saved well.

Poole began to take better control in the second half, getting the ball down and passing it about much better. Paul Manning worked tirelessly down the right and a second goal looked likely. However, disaster struck on 89 minutes when a penalty was conceded and Navy took the lead from the spot. In injury time the hosts again sliced through the Poole defence to score an easy goal to wrap up the points.

Poole: Potter, Gater, Wright, Mooney, Robinson, Woodward, Wood (P. Manning), Maloney (Kydd) (Homer), White, Woolfenden, Cornick

Poole Town  4 - 0  Stourpaine  -  Dorset Senior Cup 2nd Round

Poole returned to cup action as they took on Dorset Premier Stourpaine in a match which was postponed from midweek. After the defeat against Andover New Street last week there were a few changes and no place for James Wood or Nigel Evans. Ben Wright returned to the defence and with Purkiss in midfield Lee Manning partnered Leigh Cornick up front.

On 6 minutes Lee Manning produced a superb flick to send Cornick away down the left. As he cut in he held off the defender but his shot was easily saved by the Stourpaine keeper. On 14 minutes a Poole header was tipped onto the underside of the bar and after bouncing on the line the ball was eventually cleared to safety. The opening goal came on 24 minutes. Purkiss played Cornick in down the right - he held the ball up, turned and delivered a great cross to an unmarked Lee Manning at the far post to head home. Unfortunately Purkiss left the field injured a couple of minutes later to be replaced by Paul Maloney. Despite controlling the possession Poole made hard work of the rest of the half. On 41 minutes Gater crossed from a free kick on the left and Wright met the ball well but his effort cannoned back off the post from close range. On the stroke of half time Darren Mooney unleashed a rocket from fully 45 yards and the keeper managed to tip the ball over for a corner. Half-time: 1-0.

There was a bit more sharpness about Town's play in the second half and they quickly got the second goal. Cornick sent Matty White down the right and his high cross was met by a defender who sliced the ball back over the keeper to Lee Manning who thumped home his second of the game. Billy Robinson came on for Cornick to make his first appearance for the club since 7th October 2000.

On 80 minutes a Woodward freekick found it's way through a few players and Ricky Muir was on hand at the far post to hook the ball home. Manager's son Danny Morrell came on for Reeks and within two minutes nearly scored. He chased a ball through the middle, beat the keeper with his shot but a defender eventually cleared the ball off the line. Poole finished in style on 90 minutes. Robinson passed the ball wide to Gater and his superb cross was met by Lee Manning who controlled the ball and then volleyed home to complete his impressive hat-trick.

A decent workmanlike performance from the Dolphins but they will still need to up the ante on Tuesday night when they face a tough trip to free scoring Portsmouth RN in the Hampshire league.

Poole: Spillane, Gater, Wright, Mooney, Woodward, Purkiss (Maloney), White, L. Manning, Muir, Reeks (D. Morrell), Cornick (Robinson)
