Town 0 - 3 Andover New Street - Hampshire Premier League Familiar story once again from Tatnam as Poole Town failed to come to terms with a half decent side and Andover New Street deservedly took the three points back to Hampshire. Paul Maloney made a rare start alongside Matty White in midfield and re-signed Peter Kydd started on the bench. The Dolphins got off to the worst start possible when they conceded a freak own goal after just five minutes. Confusion between Spillane and James Wood eventually saw the defender pass the ball back into an empty net from several yards out. A bizarre goal which only Poole seem capable of scoring - we never see our opponents gifting goals as ridiculous as this. The visitors should have gone two up on 8 minutes when Darren Mooney made a mistake and gifted the ball to a New Street striker. As he raced in on goal Paul Spillane came out and made a great save at the feet of the player. On 24 minutes Poole conceded another very soft goal. The defence tried to play offside on the halfway line, got it wrong (sorry boys - he was onside!), and New Street raced away to tuck the ball under Spillane into the net. On the half hour Poole nearly pulled a goal back when James Wood met a Woodward corner but the visiting keeper, who had a great game, made a superb save to tip the ball away for a corner. Poole continued to push towards half time and the pressure was huge on the Andover defence. Goalmouth scramble followed goalmouth scramble but although the ball was pinging all round the goal line the defence somehow managed to keep it out. Half-time: 0-2. With Andover New Street content to secure the match Poole continued to have the majority of possession in the second half. However, if Poole need to learn how to defend properly then they need look no further than their visitors who fought to a man to keep the Dolphins at bay. On 55 minutes the ball was fed into Cornick who held the ball up before turning and firing just wide of the right hand post. Despite several changes in the second half (Lee Manning went off injured) the outlook got no brighter for Poole. Ricky Muir came on for the last ten minutes and he produced a bit of quality. On 84 minutes he was put through but he shot wide with only the keeper to beat and a minute later Muir saw his header from a great cross tipped around the post for a corner. As so often happens however New Street broke from the corner and scored their third on the counter. Whilst the players cannot be faulted for effort and commitment it is clear that there just isn't the quality in the team overall to compete against the better teams in the Hampshire Premier. A final point. A number of supporters are becoming increasingly irritated by the constant barrage of abuse between all Poole players who spend 90 minutes shouting obscenities at each other. This has been present since the start of the season and is not helped by the level of abuse and insults from the Poole bench aimed at the players and vice versa. Yesterday even saw the bench shouting obscenities at a section of the Poole support who, of course, returned in kind. This is getting out of hand and if players and management could put as much effort into their football and encouragement there is no doubt that results would be better. Paul and Dean - you set the standards - it's down to you. Poole: Spillane, Gater, Evans (Kydd), Mooney, Woodward, Wood, Maloney (Purkiss), White, L. Manning (Muir), Reeks, Cornick |

Lymington
Town 2 - 1 Poole Town - Hampshire Premier LeagueWith Lymington
having beaten V.T. FC in the Hampshire Senior Cup just four days previously few will be
surprised to hear that Poole's poor run of results at the Sports Ground continued as they
were deservedly beaten by the home side.
Matty White and James Wood were both missing so Lurkiss started on the left and Nick Miles partnered Cornick up front. Matches against Lymington are never pretty affairs and this one was no different. The first half proved to be very tight with very few chances created. Cornick had a snap shot saved on 17 minutes and Lymington created their first chance on the half hour when a cross from the right was met by a free header which sailed over the bar. The best chance of the first half came on 41 minutes when MIles crossed well from the right and a stretched Cornick could only manage to put the ball over the bar from a few feet out. Half-time: 0-0. Poole began to win more possession at the start of the second half and as so often happens they were hit by a counter attack which led to the first goal. On 55 minutes with Poole pressing forward Lymington won the ball and a superb flick with the outside of the boot sent the striker away down the right and as the keeper came out the home player neatly fired past Potter into the far corner. From this point on Poole lost discipline across the park and all cohesion and passing from the first half went out the window. On 59 minutes a shot from Miles looped high into the air and bounced down on top of the bar before going behind for a goal kick but this was a half chance at best. Paul Morrell made changes as the half wore on but this only led to Poole losing shape. Suddenly Gater was on the left of defence with Mooney on the right and Evans moved up into midfield. None of it worked however and Poole looked poor as the time ticked away. On 80 minutes a Muir shot was dropped by the Lymington keeper yet a follow up shot somehow managed to go wide with the goal beckoning and this summed up the night for the Dolphins. On 85 minutes another total cock-up in defence gave Lymington the softest of goals and this error was made harder to bear when the hard working Cornick managed to volley home a shot on 93 minutes which only served as a consolation. Unfortunately this was another bad showing and if this is the best the players can offer then they can expect a good few more defeats in coming games. Poole: Potter, Gater, Evans, Mooney, P. Manning (Muir), Purkiss (Krunic), Woodward, L. Manning, Reeks (Homer), Cornick, MIles |

Fareham
Town 4 - 1 Poole Town - Hampshire Senior Cup 1st RoundThe Dolphins
travelled to Wessex League Fareham Town for their Hants Senior Cup tie and despite losing
Poole managed to put in a pretty good performance. Both Gater and Matty White returned to
the side as the line-up took on a familiar Poole look.
The first half proved to be a very even affair as both sides battled from the start to gain superiority. Chances were few and far between as the battle took place mainly in the midfield but in the opening half hour it was Poole who looked fairly dangerous on the break. With five across the middle however this left Leigh Cornick as the sole striker and options for him, at times, looked limited. On 20 minutes a mix-up between Poole keeper Potter and Nigel Evans nearly saw the defender concede an own goal but luckily the ball flashed past the outside of the post for a corner. On the half hour Alex Purkiss came off the bench to replace the injured Matty White. A minute later and Poole fashioned their first chance. Paul Manning knocked a good ball into Cornick and the striker turned and unleashed a fierce shot. Although the keeper made a good stop the rebound fell to Lee Manning but his shot whistled just over the bar. On 34 minutes Fareham took the lead when a cross from the right was met by an unmarked Dave Rowe and he headed the ball firmly home. Poole produced the perfect response however and within four minutes they were deservedly level. Leigh Cornick drilled a ball from the right hand side of the box and Purkiss nipped in at the far post to slot the ball home. This seemed to stir the Fareham side and from this point on they stepped up a gear to try to win the game. On 42 minutes their was a scramble in the Poole area and a Fareham player managed to thump the ball home through a crowd of players. Half-time: 2-1. Whilst the second half was also keenly fought the difference between the two sides was the quality in the final third of the field. Poole battled hard and kept working to the end but they found it increasingly difficult to create any chances. In contrast when Fareham created a half chance they seized the opportunity and their finishing was better. On 60 minutes Potter made a great save diving to his left to keep out a header but on 68 minutes he was powerless to stop Musselwhite heading home clinically from a great right wing cross. With time running out Fareham added a fourth on 85 minutes - a Musselwhite effort was saved well but a follow-up shot was knocked in to put the home side into round 2. A much better performance from Poole and both players and supporters can take a lot of positives from the game as they return to league action next Tuesday night. Poole
Town 5 - 0 Swanage & Herston - Dorset Senior Cup 1st RoundAfter Saturday's
dismal performance Manager Paul Morrell used the Dorset Senior Cup 1st Round match against
Swanage to make a few changes to the side. Out went Andy Gater, Callum Burt, Matty White
and in came Darren Reeks, Nick Miles and Alex Purkiss made his first full start for the
club. Max Crowe appeared on the bench for the first time this season and it was also good
to see Ben Wright back in the squad albeit on the bench to start.
The changes did little to the overall performance as Poole continued to show a complete lack of confidence on the ball. Despite the five goals the first half performance was mediocre at best and the second half saw Poole slip back to Saturday's level with worrying ease. Poole's first came on ten minutes when a Carl Woodward corner on the right curled straight into the far corner leaving the keeper flat footed. Twenty minutes and Cornick found space in the box and unleased a fierce shot. After the keeper parried his initial shot Cornick was able to volley the rebound in with little problem. Thirty minutes and James Wood headed home another Woodward corner from the right to make it three. Some good football wide on the right on forty minutes saw Paul Manning beautifully played in and spotting the keeper off his line the winger deftly lobbed the keeper to score his first ever goal for Poole. On the stroke of half time a Poole cross was handled in the box and Lee Manning converted the resulting penalty. Half-time: 5-0. Already five up at the break it is never easy to maintain motivation but Poole failed to dominate the game in the second period. Full credit to Swanage who battled all the way to the end, encouraging each other and driving each other on. Poole's best chance of the second half came on 58 minutes when a cross from the right was headed just over the bar by Lee Manning. Poole: Potter, Wood (Wright), Evans, Mooney, P. Manning, Woodward, A. Purkiss (M. Morris), L. Manning, Reeks, Cornick (Crowe), Miles |
