Poole Town  1 V 1  Stockbridge  -   Hampshire Premier League

If the result and performance on Thursday night was disappointing then this performance was nothing short of disgraceful. There was a real feel of end of season about this match which started badly and went downhill from there on in.

On 7 minutes a freekick from Woodward on the left was met by Jamie Holland at the far post and he tapped in for a simple goal to put the Dolphins ahead. There is very little to say about the rest of the first half as neither side proved capable of stringing two passes together let alone create a goalscoring chance. Half-time: 1-0.

On 61 minutes Matty Homer robbed the last defender of the ball but his shot was well saved before being cleared. As Poole sat back and invited Stockbridge on the visitors created their first chance on 65 minutes - a fine shot from 25 yards tipped over by Elliot in goal. On 75 minutes manager Morrell seemed to lose patience with Holland's lack of effort up front and Jordan Mooney came on. As Holland walked off he threw his shirt at the bench and made his way to the changing room. The last few games have witnessed incessant arguing and bitchiness between a lot of the Poole players and this is simply going to have to be sorted out. Another area needing immediate attention is Karim Benssaouda's temper as he was given a straight red card yet again on 79 minutes. Why a player with such talent and ability continually lets everyone down is a mystery (what sort of ban is he likely to face - this must be his fourth or fifth red card this season alone?)

As expected Stockbridge pulled level towards the end of the game and neither they nor Poole seemed bothered whether they won, lost or drew. Unless the club can provide better entertainment than this then they will not attract more than the 80 who turned up today. Nor will they deserve to.

Poole: Elliot, Woodward, Morrell, Kemp, Drew, Roberts (G. Morris), Homer, Fletcher (Wood), M. Morris, Benssaouda, Holland (J. Mooney)

Fixture News

The first news is that the Poole Town V East Cowes VA game played on 12th October 2002 has been deemed void by the Hampshire League as East Cowes fielded an ineligible player. The game is to be replayed on April 24th (to be confirmed) and East Cowes have also been deducted 3 points as a penalty. This means that Poole Town have now moved above East Cowes in the table and have an opportunity to avenge the original scoreline of 3-0 to Vics.

The match away at AFC Aldermaston has been moved to Wednesday 9th April and the away game at Bishops Waltham Town has been moved to Tuesday 22nd April.

Andover New Street  3 V 2  Poole Town  (AET)  -   Trophyman Cup Semi-Final

After a spirited start to this vital cup game Poole Town's last chance of silverware this season fizzled to nothing at Winchester City's ground.

Fielding a strong side Poole took immediate charge of the game and the opening 20 minutes promised so much. The mood was positive and the passing and movement was sharp and incisive. How this could descend into ultimately an abject performance is a frustration which Paul and Dean will need to resolve prior to next season.

As early as the first minute Poole were on the attack. Benssaouda produced a great cross from the left but Holland's shot was tamely struck at the keeper. On 16 minutes the Dolphins took a deserved lead when Benssaouda was sent clear down the left and as the keeper advanced the Frenchman coolly volleyed over the top of him into an empty net - another class finish. Things got better for Poole three minutes later when a cross from the left eluded everyone but Ross Drew at the far post and he cracked home the ball from close range. Poole supporters knew better than to think the final was now a formality and as the pedal definitely came off the gas so New Street gathered momentum and started playing some of their good football.

On 23 minutes a New Street corner from the right was volleyed superbly first time but the ball cannoned back off the bar and was cleared to safety. The warnings though were there for all to see and after Elliot made a good save on 34 minutes a New Street player followed in to score from the rebound. At this point it was clear that it was going to be a long evening and in this respect the Poole supporters were not to be let down! Half time: 1-2.

With Andover New Street controlling the second half quite comfortably Matty Homer came on for a poor Jamie Holland and Homer at least added a bit of grit and determination in the middle of the park. On 68 minutes a quick turn and shot from New Street whistled narrowly over the bar and it only looked a matter of time before the equaliser came. Poole's first chance of the second half came on 80 minutes when a brilliant low free kick from Karim Benssaouda was well saved down to the keeper's right. As the match entered injury time justice was served when a cracking volley from the edge of the box found the Poole net and the game was pushed to extra time.

There only ever looked like being one winner at this point and with New Street pouring forward the crucial goal came on 98 minutes when another super volley was lashed in from 20 yards. As is so often the case Poole woke up when behind and the last ten minutes saw a siege on the New Street goal. There were a couple of goalmouth scrambles and a shot hit the New Street bar but the final whistle was met by huge cheers from the Andover players and supporters.

This was a bitterly disappointing result but an absolutely right scoreline on the night. Andover were quicker to everything and had a far bigger hunger to go and win the game. The Andover New Street No. 8 Stuart Anderson was simply superb all night and must have won every single header in the game. Why then did Poole simply thump every ball aimlessly towards him?

Well done Andover New Street - a deserved win - good luck in the final against Winchester City.

Poole: Elliot, Woodward, Spalding, Wright, Kemp, Drew (Roberts), Fletcher, Elmes, M. Morris (Ainsworth), Benssaouda, Holland (Homer)
